BRASWELL, Helen Pawellek Vereen "Penny" of Wilmington, N.C., died Thursday, February 14, 2008. She was born on March 12, 1925 in Philadelphia, the only child and daughter of Joseph Pawellek and Helen Naffin of Germany. She attended Palmer Business College, Temple University Philadephia Bar Association, University of Pennsylvania (psychology), American Institute of Banking, American Association of Ophthalmology (Registered Assistant), and Art Classes of Cape Fear Community College. She worked in banking, radio, moving industry, Pediatrics (Dr. W. Crouch), Ophthalmology (Dr. F. Butler), State Judicial Department, and she taught Art at NHC Senior Center. Her husbands, Jennings J. Vereen and Frank P. Braswell, predeceased her. She leaves two very precious children, Donna Vereen Tubb of Wilmington, and Joseph J. Vereen of Richmond, Va.; and considered Joseph's wife, Maria Hearn, a second daughter. Also surviving are two wonderful grandchildren, Joshua J. Vereen and Elijah D. Vereen of Richmond, Va. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Pastors Keith Warner and Dean Morton will preside. A private interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
