Helen Carey

Such a faithful Christian and friend. Loved working with her at the church on the floral committee and going bird-watching with her.

We were so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. I first met Helen when she was substitute teaching for my son in the early grades at EJA. I immediately saw what a dignified lady she was and also very soft spoken, gentle and calm. My son did very well in her room, as far as I know. We was grateful to have her as his teacher. Later we got to know each other better at church; she always greeted me warmly and stopped to talk for a bit. We will miss her quiet, gentle ways...until we meet again one...

Helen was also a teacher at Eugene Junior Academy in the 1950's. She was my first and second grade teacher. I loved school. "Miss Ritchy" as we knew her made the class orderly, academic, safe and clean. I remember coming to her desk with an untied shoe for her to tie. My parents had 6 other children by the time I was in first grade with another on the way so did not have time for "everything". Helen brushed her neatly pleated skirt aside and had me place my (less than pristine) shoe on...
