DENTON, Helen Kogel Helen Kogel Denton, 91, of Fayetteville died peacefully on December 3, 2013. Mrs. Denton served in the US Army on General Eisenhower's staff during World War II. She retired from Delta Air Lines where she was a secretary in the Maintenance Department. She was preceded in death by her husband Noel Denton and her son Jon Denton. She is survived by numerous extended family members and many loving friends. She was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3650. She also served for many years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Catholic Church of St. Gabriel, Fayetteville with Father Jimmy Adams officiating. The burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Jonesboro City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. This is such sad news. I got to know Helen through her involvement with Collies and the Collie Health Foundation. She is one of those people I expected to go on forever. She was so active and led such a full wonderful life. There was no one nicer than Helen. Truly a class act!

Mrs. Denton was a remarkable individual. She enjoyed a long and happy life. Though she suffered terrible tragedy when she lost her husband, Noel, and only child, Jon in 1982, she refused to succumb to grief. She devoted the remaining 31 years of her life to her church and her community.
She served under General Dwight Eisenhower in World War II. While stationed in London, she typed the plans, Operation Overload, for the invasion of France. In the late summer of 1944, she was shipped...
