GAGNON, Helen D. - Of Flint, age 71, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM Saturday, April 28, 2007 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 609 East Fifth Avenue, Flint, Father Tim Nelson officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to North End Soup Kitchen or Old Newsboys. Visitation 2-8PM Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Scripture Service will be held at 7PM Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Gagnon will be at the church from 10AM Saturday until the time of the Mass. Helen was born in Flint, Michigan on July 17, 1935, the daughter of John and Mary O'Malley. On January 19, 1963 she married Maurice Gagnon. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She belonged to the Hurley Fitness Center. Surviving are husband, Maurice; son, Kevin and wife Cathie of Grand Haven; 3 daughters, Margaret and husband Steve Anderson of Grand Rapids, Karen and husband Robert Slayton of Livonia, Monica and husband Michael Genslak of Clarkston; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lauren, Michael, Morgan, Megan, Joshua, Anna, David, Jenny, Matthew, Emily and Allison; 3 sisters, Enda O'Malley of Flint, Margaret O'Malley of South Bend, Indiana, Eileen and husband Ross Byrne of South Bend, Indiana; 3 brothers, John and wife Jane O'Malley of South Bend, Indiana, William O'Malley and James O'Malley, both of Flint; several nieces and nephews. We are sorry to here of our loss. You and your wife are such caring & giving people. I had just seen her at the store (Meijer) so this comes as a great shock to me. The last couple of months Aunt Helen had written me a few letters. You should all know that you are all that she spoke of. If she was talking about herself it was involving one of you because you were her whole world and I think that she cherished having you all very much! You were her pride and joy. Maurie, We were so sorry to hear about Helen. I am still in shock as you and your family must be too. She was a very special person to me as my Godmother. In all the years she never forgot my birthday. She was a very outgoing and selfless woman. She loved her family so much and always told stories about their accomplishments. She was so proud of them. A very quiet humble women, Helen Gagnon was a wonderful sister-in-law to me. We shared many of life's moments together especially about our children. We agreed early on never to be jealous of each others children accomplishments and we never were. I always will remember special time in the backyard in the kids swimming pool - it was more for her than the kids. She will be truly missed by me. My brother made a great choice in love.
