Helen Hinman

Helen M. Hinman, 93, of Belmond, Iowa, most recently a resident of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, passed away, Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church, 116 W. Main Street, Belmond, Iowa.
The Reverend Donna Buckman will be officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 1st Street SE, Belmond, Iowa, and continues one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials in Helen's name may be directed to the family or the donor's choice.
Helen Margaret (Landon) Hinman, the daughter of Archie and Rena (Claire) Landon, was born September 27, 1921, in Goodell, Iowa. As a young lady, she attended Meservey High School for two years before finishing her schooling at Belmond High School graduating in the class of 1939.
Helen was united in marriage to Earl E. Hinman on April 19, 1949, at the Congregational Church in Belmond. The couple's union was blessed with two children: a son Dwight, who died as a result of complications while serving in the military in Vietnam, and a daughter Lynda.
Helen was a life-long homemaker and farmed with her husband west of Belmond. She very much relished her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Helen loved to provide a nurturing environment for her family and strived hard to instill the philosophies of faith, family, strong morals, and values in her children's lives. She was an immaculate housekeeper and meticulous in organization. Helen and Earl farmed 50 years before retiring. She and Earl had done some traveling with a farm tour to Europe, to the East coast to see the Vietnam Memorial, family vacation to Colorado, and a fishing excursions to Canada where she was known to catch bigger fish than Earl.
Helen was active in the U.C.C. Church and Women's Fellowship. She was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge and Past Noble Grand and was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an outstanding cook and an avid reader of both her daily devotions and was always reading books.
Helen enjoyed collecting and had vast collections of decorative apples, tea pots, spoons, and plates. She loved flowers with pink being her favorites. She had also done some beautiful hand crafted crocheted items.
In more recent years, Helen would often be seen along-side her daughter, Lynda, on the way to church followed by a Sunday afternoon of dining out and special times the two of them shared. Often times, it was like one might see them in a mirror or reflective pool, as they both were immaculately dressed in matching attire.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and had the opportunity to share in her life including her daughter, Lynda Etchen, Belmond; daughter in law, Kathy Goldberg, Florida and Illinois; and Kathy's four daughters, Aimee, Theresa, Karrie, and Keeley; a grandson, Vincent (Thida) Etchen and their sons, Anthony and Vinchenzo, all of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; a granddaughter, Cynthia Ethen of Clarion, Iowa; brother in law, George (Imogene) Hinman, Belmond, Iowa; and other extended family and friends.Helen was preceded in death by her parents; son Dwight; sisters Marie Watermiller, Fannie Halfpop, and Neva Thompson.
