K ilpatrick, Helen Frances 97, died Saturday, April 16, 2011. She was born July 27, 1913 to Yugoslavian immigrants Mateo and Draga Rock (Rak) in Chicago, Illinois. Helen earned a degree at Mount Mercy Teacher's College and taught school, a job she loved, for several years before marrying Edward Kilpatrick in 1939. The couple with their infant son moved to Herndon, Virginia in 1940. Fourteen years later the family relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where they lived for 28 years before moving to Longmont. Helen was a woman of boundless energy and a strong sense of duty who believed intensely in the importance of a safe, secure, and healthy environment for her family. She worked tirelessly to provide that and raised her 12 children in a house that always seemed to hold the aroma of freshly baked bread. She maintained her love of learning and kept abreast of global affairs even well into her later years. Helen loved having people visit, especially family. Her grandchildren all knew that Grandma would be delighted to see them and would be highly interested in all their activities. Each member of the extended family has fond memories of stopping in to see Mom/Grandma and spending hours visiting around the large dining table. She will be greatly missed. Helen Kilpatrick is survived by 11 children, Edward, Helen Manson (Don), Charles (Bobbie), Dorothy Hansen (Mike), John (Lora), Thomas (Rebecca), Therese (Dan Garbers), Katherine, Elizabeth Sherry (Billy), Rita Hall (Rob) and Michael; 27 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one sister. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed, her daughter, Mary Ann and seven siblings. Visitation will be from 4-7p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at Howe Mortuary in Longmont with a Rosary Service at 7p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Boulder. Interment will take place immediately following at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder. Memorials may be given to Sunny Acres memory Care, 2515 E. 104th Ave., Thornton, CO 80233.

What sad news of Helen's passing! I remember my Sunday mornings around the family table and visiting her at the Home in Thornton. She always made me feel so welcome and part of it all. Due to many circumstances, I moved back to California last November. My love, thoughts, and prayers are with all of you. I join in your sadness....Shelley

Hi Kilpatricks! I was so saddened to learn that your mother had passed away in April...mom informed me yesterday...at 93, she has a bit of demitia and cannot always be up-to-date with her extended family. I only met your mother a few times, both in Longmont, when we would visit relatives in Colorado. She was always so gracious to see my wife and I, and treated us like we were her children. I only have fond memories of my Aunt Helen, and thats all that counts.
So, speaking for all the Desmarteaus, we send the Kilpatrick family our condolences and prayers for your mother...I can only imagine she has a high place in Heaven. If any of you ever come out to Oregon, please give us a call, we would love to see you! Your Cousin, Dave Desmarteau and Family
PS: There are two of Helen sisters still living: Dorothy (mom) and Catherine (age 91, living near Seattle).
