Helen Lane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2016.
Helen Louise Lane was born on October 22, 1924 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Andy Anderson and Mary Ragsdale. Helen was raised by her maternal grandparents.
After completing elementary school, Helen attended North East Junior High School and graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She joined the Army and served her country from January 1945 to November 1945 and was honorably discharged after the end of WWII.
Helen met the love of her life, Albert L. Lane in 1945 and they were united in marriage on September 21, 1946 in Kansas City, KS. From that union came seven children. While living in Kansas, Helen was a choir soloist at Greystone Missionary Baptist Church. Helen and Albert resided in Kansas City until relocating their family to Los Angeles in 1956 and moved to Compton in March 1959. While residing in Compton, Helen became a member of Double Rock Baptist Church and again became a choir soloist.
Helen spent the majority of her working career in the Aerospace Industry as a Circuit Board Assembler, beginning in 1959. She always chose to work the swing shift to ensure that she could be there for her children during the day. She retired in 1985.
Helen's hobbies and interests included crocheting, playing cards, reading novels, word search puzzles and the occasional trip to Vegas. She also loved gospel music, watching westerns, detective and court tv shows.
After enjoying part of her retiring years in California, Helen spent the remainder of her life in Texas.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Albert L. Lane and her son Michael E. Lane.
Helen leaves to cherish her memories: Patricia Lane-Smith of Little Elm, TX; Ronald Lane & wife Glenda of Perris, CA; Joyce Smith & husband Donnie of Corona, CA; Ricky Lane & wife Debra of Fontana, CA; Beverly Cain & husband Johnnie of Little Elm, TX; and James Lane & wife Janice of Little Elm, TX. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.

To the Lane Family, what I really want for each of you is to know that you're well and you've accepted the fact that God needed His daughter home. She was tired and needed to get the rest that she so desired. That you're not burdened with the things that so many people are thinking about at this time of bereavement. I sure there were people in her corner of the world including knew how blessed they were to have known her.

There are no words to express the sympathy I feel for your family's loss. I was lucky to have known Mrs. Lane since I was pretty young because I grew up across the street from the Cain's house. One of my fondest memories was when she would sit and chat with us... Kim and I would visit her and she would give me those love-story books (the ones with a strong sexy man or Fabio on the cover) to read when she was done with them. She'd give me little grocery bags full of books because she read alot. I remember the best gift that I cherish, was when I was leaving to join the military and she gave me a silver watch. It was very thoughtful because most of my gifts were things I couldn't even take with me. She knew what I would need like most grandparents do. I remember her being proud of me and being such a loving grandma. I'm thankful for my memories and I am very sorry for your loss.
