To the Ruddy family: I have to write this as it comes to the foremost of my mind when I think of John and Helen. Whenever I would see him I would always ask him, depending on what day it was, "What's for dinner John?" (Sunday). Then the next time or sometime after Sunday, I would ask him "How many came to dinner John?" and until not too long ago, he would say daughter one, three, etc. I finally asked him if he knew his kids names, teasingly. He's getting better with the names. ...

John, as things at this time aren't going well for you and your family, just think about all the good memories you've had in the 64 years you've had together. Don't dwell on the illness and sadness of the recent past. Think and talk with your family about Helen as they are grieving too. My heart is sad too. Helen was my friend and I will miss her.
