My mom was my first and best teacher. She taught me many big things, like the generosity of time and skills as a volunteer, and devotion to family, friends, community and Judaism. She taught me many smaller things, as well, like the secrets of her brisket and chopped liver recipes, and how to appreciate and collect art and jewelry. She taught me, and others, by example, not just words. She was a motivated volunteer. She loved to travel, read, and was passionate and informed about politics....
