Jane, I wanted to share with you how much I respected your mother as a person, nurse educator and professional nurse. As a 1974 BSN UE graduate, I always tried to aspire to the standard your mother set for all of us. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, I had planned to attend the Remembrance and Celebration service; however, I was attending the INACSL Conference in Florida and could not be present. I credit your mother with the success that I have achieved in Nursing. Peace be with you.

Helen was my nursing instructor when I started nursing in 1954 at the Welbron Baptist Hospital- Evansville College school of Nursing.
Later in 1975 when she was Dean of the School in 1975 she hired me to teach. She was a wonderful lady and nurse. She always cared about her students. Sorry for your loss but she lived a long and good life. LaNova Cook -class of 1958

I knew Dr. Smith when I was a student at then Evansville College and later as the public relations director at the University of Evansville when Dr. Smith became Dean. She was a wonderful role model for women in her position as second Dean of the School of Nursing. I remember her as always very kind and gracious to a neophyte public relations director.
