Not sure what to say?

Helen was my teacher and graduate advisor at Reed college from 1978-1982. She loved science and inspired us as well. I still remember her telling us that plants and microbes communicate. That bit of knowledge launched a lifelong interest, which I am continuing today.

We all loved dinners at her house. I remember that she was a bit annoyed at us vegetarians. "Plants have feelings, too" she would say.

Long live our memories of Helen Stafford

Helen Stafford was an insprational mentor for me when I was a senior thesis student at Reed College in 1981/2. She was a great scientist and a wonderful person. I can still remember stimulating conversations over dinner at her home with other students. Prof Stafford was a real asset to the Reed community and I am sure that she will be sorely missed..

I worked in the Reed Sciences Departments as a secretary for 18 years, most of which were in the Biology Dept. Helen was very kind, gracious, and friendly. I remember her having lasagna dinners many years for her students. She was a very interesting lady. After I retired in 1984, Helen came to my home to introduce me to her new dog. We are the same age.
