Helmy Tewfik

Helmy was a blessing to me in my ministry at St. James Episcopal Church, Monterey, California in the 1970's--with wonderful wife Suad and two boys, Harry and Michael (I think), my wife and I had some great times. Having dinner with them was an experience of love and joyful spirits. He had a position teaching Arabic at the Defense Language Institute. Dr Tewfik was a coffee shop buddy of mine for a couple years, 2-3 years ago. He passed along to me, a lot of great insight, wisdom and stories of his life and experiences. Not perfect, made mistakes, but fundamentally well grounded, interested in other people and often encouraging the best from them.

Dr Tewfik was a loving and generous man. I enjoyed knowing him from St. Barnabas--he always had a smile on this face, enjoyed the children in the parish and was so very pleasant to be with. I especially enjoyed his hats--they were a kick.
