I am only today hearing of Hank's passing and it saddens me very much. As the Connecticut State Archaeologist, Hank worked with me for many years assisting in the field and participating in all the FOSA annual meetings. I remember well how he would always drive to the site with George Kinsella and the two of them usually worked together in the field. They were very meticulous in their excavations and we shared many laughs together. Hank also assisted me whenever skeletal remains were encountered, using his doctor's knowledge of anatomy.
I have some photos of Hank and George at a number of our excavations and will send some to the family.
My deepest sympathies to his family. He was a loyal friend and a joy to be with. We will miss him dearly.

So very sorry to hear of Dr. Coppes' passing. He was a fantastic doctor. Growing up in Milford, my grandmother was Dr. Coppes' first patient. She often would knit him sweaters for Christmas. My mother was a patient and eventually I was until Dr. Coppes retired. I remember him coming to the house to care for my grandmother back in the day when doctors made house calls. He would be proud that Internal Medicine of Milford is still one of the most respected practices around with wonderful doctors. My grandmother used to like to tell the story of one of her early visits with Dr. Coppes - she asked him a question and he didn't answer right away. She started to get mad that he wouldn't answer when finally he told her "I have to think in Dutch and translate to English". My Mom, who will be 90 and now lives in Milford, always asks me to ask the Drs. at IMM if they see or hear from him. We will always remember him fondly.

I met Dr. Coppes when I was in the hospital at age 13 and immediately fell in "love". I had the honor later in life to work for him for 14 years. He was the most caring, compassionate, kind man and doctor I ever met and count myself as extremely fortunate to have known him.
