HENRI DRIESSEN Obituary
February 20, 1916 – October 21, 2014
Peter passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 21, 2014 with his three children by his side. Peter was a loving husband of 66 years to Mini, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. Peter touched many lives over his 98-year journey and will be dearly missed by all. Peter was predeceased by his wife Mini two years ago; and is survived by his children Margaret (David), Peter (Elizabeth) and Yvonne (Dick); his grandchildren Craig, Kevin, Raymond, Jordy; and his great-grandchildren Ethan and Aaron, Leila, Makenna and Tessa. Peter was born in Indonesia and lived there for the first 10 years of his life. He then went to Holland and completed his medical degree at the University of Amsterdam in 1942. He married Mini in 1946 and returned to Indonesia as a medical officer with the Dutch army and later with an oil company for which he managed a 60-bed hospital. He obtained his PhD in Medicine with his dissertation on tuberculosis. After immigrating to Canada, he started a private practice in Port Alberni. He returned to Holland to study and work in industrial medicine. He returned to Vancouver and had a private practice until retirement. A Remembrance Gathering is to be held on Saturday February 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre located at 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey. Dear family, on my search to him, i find your father here, the message about his passing. I never met your father, but got to know about him by a writing from his hand about his life. He signed White Rock BC march 1997. The paper i found in the belongings of my parents, Beatrice and Bob van Tilburg in Den Bosch NL. Bob is the brother of Embert in Victoria BC. I have great memories of Pieter, we both enjoyed discussing subjects of mutual interest .
I always think of him as a man deeply aware of the times in which we live.

It was such a happy time for our family when Helen and David met you and Mini at the Pacifica. A good friendship was forged; many happy years of visiting ensued.
I was so pleased to be included as one of your friends!
I enjoyed your wit, your laugh, your salient thoughts on health and on the world in general. It was my pleasure to have known you. Though you will be missed, I know it was your fervent wish to be with Mini. Love you, Pieter.

Dear Peter,
At first I knew you as a stern father figure but that impression soon changed to seeing you as who you truly were, a person of high energy, intelligence, immeasurable love for his family and a good friend. You had a mischievous side to you too and a great sense of humour. To know you was to love you.
I will miss our extended discussions about politics, family and other topics. You had an opinion about everything which was sometimes a little controversial, but that was you, Dad. You will be missed.
