Dr. Abernathy was stuck with me after being admitted for an extremely bad case of poison Ivey. I was 5 years old. I had shimmied across a log that had fallen across Lyle creek in Claremont. The poison had creeped up my shorts and eventually affected my insides. He admitted me at Richard Baker. I was a terrifically active child. He was so kind to me. He brought me milk shakes from woolworths. He helped me with accept purple baths when he brought me a little tub shaped like a boat. God...

Dr. Abernathy was my family's Dr. Since I was a baby, I remember him falling out of his stool one day racing cars with me when I was little and laughing so hard after it happened. When I almost died he personally rushed me to the hospital and cancelled his vacation to make sure I pulled through and after I was ok went and got me the cheeseburger and fries that he promised me from Hardee's. He cared for my grandmother her whole life as well and I went to those appointments when I was older. He...

Dear Lisa and Kim, My condolences to you on the passing of your father. He was a unique individual, totally charming and a man of the world. I have wonderful memories of babysitting for you two and then your dad would drive me home in his sports car. I remember him and your mom as a glamorous couple. He was also a great friend to my father and I am glad our families had a connection. May he rest in peace.

Dr Abernathy was my doctor from before I can remember until I was married and left Hickory at age 24. I remember him literally chasing me around the room to give me my immunizations before starting kindergarten. During my teen years, he would enter the exam room and first thing he would say "Who controls your destiny?" This question was always followed by a heart to heart about boys, life, school and making good choices. Fast forward a few years .....My first day teaching 7th grade, HDR...

I worked for Dr Abernethy for many years prior to his retirement. He was more than just my employer, he was my friend. He seemed more like family to me than anything else. My own family as well as many others, I'm sure, felt that way too. He was one of the kindest, and wisest people I've ever known and the greatest physician I've ever had the privilege of working with. My heartfelt condolences go out to all the family. He was absolutely the best of the best.. Carolyn,Donnie, Kristy & Tim...

Dr. Abernathy was a wonderful doctor. My grandmother was one of his first patients. Grace Little. Then it carried on for three more generations. He was caring and always there for us! Our prayers are with you!!

Our deepest sympathy, to Lisa Kim and all of the family. Dr Abernethy hired me when we first arrived back in N. C. We spent many hours talking about England, he loved it as much as I did, he always said that´s why he hired me for my accent. He was such a wonderful Doctor and his patients loved him dearly. So many of them had been with him since he opened his practice so many years ago. He will be sorely missed. Deepest sympathies

Great doctor and friend who stitched me up more than anyone else in my life. Great man. Condolences to all family. Love and prayers from the Starnes Family.
