Henry Grady DEVAN Jr.

DEVAN, JR., Henry Grady Age 71 of Franklin, TN, December 4, 2010. Devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was preceded in death by his father, Henry Grady DeVan and mother, Ruth Rosemary Klaas DeVan. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann Beasley DeVan; daughter, Kristi DeVan Robey (Josh) and granddaughter, Scarlett Ann Robey. Grady attended Vanderbilt University, served in the Army National Guard and was employed by Armco Steel for 26 years. After retiring from Armco in 1994, Grady continued as a consultant in the steel industry until the time of his death. Those who knew Grady also knew of his lifetime love of boating. From the Caribbean to the Cumberland River, Grady and Ann were always at home on the water. And he was no fair weather sailor either. Friends were just as likely to see Grady and Ann headed down the river on an icy mid-winter day in search of fledglings in the eagle's nest, as they were to see him at the helm of their beloved Happy D's in a fourth of July boat parade. Grady was a member of the Rock Harbor Yacht Club, the Nashville Yacht Club and a long-time member of Commodore Yacht Club, where he had served on the board of directors and as Commodore. Grady DeVan, Jr. loved life, and he lived it fully and joyously. Friends and family are invited to join for a visitation at Sperry's Restaurant of Cool Springs, 650 Frazier Dr., Franklin, TN, December 29, 2010 from 5-8 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Ceremony from 6:30-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Friends of Hannah Animal Sanctuary, 123 Big Station Camp Blvd., Gallatin, TN 37066 or a charitable organization of choice.
