Not sure what to say?

I had Hank as as teacher when I was in high school in Omaha where he was a sociology teacher. He was an activist even then against the Vietnam War when he was a Jesuit. Although I disagreed probably 98% of the time with his POLITICAL opinions, he and I got along great and I recognized his passion: to teach and improve young people. RIP.

I first met Hank when I was an undergraduate taking his sociology classes over 40 years ago. He earned my utmost respect as a teacher but I treasure most the healing force he was in my life. While challenging us he also respected each student and was never egotistical or power-seeking. His activism was inspiring and he encouraged us to experience our collective power and to think for ourselves. Over the years we became close friends--his incredible life-force was revealed in many forms,...

Dear Bette and Family,
On behalf of those who regularly attend the Columbia Seminar on Globalization, Labor and Popular Struggles, which Hank co-chaired for several years, I want to express our deepest sympathies at your loss. Hank was a wonderful person--one of the kindest and gentlest people yet fiercely committed to the struggle for justice for the oppressed. I not only knew him through the seminar, but got to know him much earlier when he worked for the Interfaith Center on...

I am saddened by the news of Hank's passing and send condolences to his family and community. I was privileged to meet Hank during a conference last year, and to share conversations with him about his extensive knowledge of and commitment to social justice in Latin America. He was one of those rare scholars who seemlessly bridges the divide between academia and activism.

Dear Bette and family

Oh what a loss. I am so terribly sorry that we have not been in touch. I feel Hank's spirit with us and will gladly do whatever you want to help out. The world was a better place with Hank in it, and he leaves a wealth of legacy.

So sorry to hear this sad news, and my sympathies to the family. I knew Hank from when I originally started working at Ramapo College in 1974. Although many years have passed and I soon worked in other departments, he would always have a kind word to say if I passed him in the hall. Very nice man, he will be deeply missed.

Dear Bette,

Hank was one of the dearest people I have ever met. All who knew him seem to have been blessed by his very presence. I will miss him greatly.

I wish you much peace during this difficult time.
