Henry Gee, 87, of Ames, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Northcrest Community Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 1, 2010, in the Green Room at Northcrest Community.
He was born in Nanking, China, to Charles and He (Chen) Gee. He completed his education there, earning a BS degree in Civil Engineering. In March of 1949 he arrived at Iowa State College, now ISU, in Ames to pursue higher education, obtaining an MS degree in 1951. Subsequently, he joined the Highway Commission, now the IDOT, retiring in 1988 as Chief Structural Engineer in the Bridge Section, after serving the State for 37 years.
He married Mary Huang in 1955 in Philadelphia, PA. They returned to Ames to raise their family. After retirement, he took up playing bridge seriously, and participated in the Ames Duplicate Bridge Club.
Henry is survived by Mary, his wife of 55 years, a daughter, Carol, of Los Angeles, CA, a son, Stephen, of Honolulu, HI, and two grandchildren, Isabella and Alexander, as well as two brothers and one sister in China.
