Henry John Kluver was born May 18, 1929 in Raymond, MN, the son of John and Kate (Gerdes) Kluver. He worked on his parents' farm with his two brothers and six sisters. When Henry was about twelve years old the Kluver family moved to a farm west of Garfield, MN. He attended grade school at Garfield. His parents then moved to Hudson Township southeast of Alexandria, MN where they farmed. Henry worked on that farm and several neighboring farms. In 1951 Henry joined the Minnesota National Guard. He was sent with K Company, Fourth Infantry to Camp Rucker in Alabama where he was stationed for two and one half years. While in the Army, Henry attended truck driving and maintenance school. Upon his return to Minnesota Henry took a job with Alexandria Creamery. Henry went to a dance one evening and met the love of his life. On April 21, 1954 Henry was united in marriage to Shirley Dropik at St. Mary's Church in Alexandria. They were blessed with three children, Carol, Curt and Kelly. When Land O'Lakes Creamery opened in town the Alexandria creamery closed and Henry was employed by Land O'Lakes. Land O' Lakes was a very good company to work for and they were very good to Henry; he loved working for them. After forty years with them Henry retired. Following retirement Henry looked after his farm and liked keeping his lawn looking nice. The Kluvers were a very musical family and Henry liked to listen to music and go dancing. He traveled on many trips with Shirley. Henry also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ervin Kluver; sister, Ione Hanson: and son-in-law, Jon Mayer. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Kluver of Alexandria; children Carol Mayer, Curt Kluver, and Kelly Schultz and husband, Larry, all of Alexandria; six grandchildren; Randy Mayer, Alyssa Kluver, Jared Kluver, Justin Schultz, Megan Schultz and Connor Schultz; three great grandchildren, Tayler Mayer, Hannah Mayer and Kaden Kluver; brother, Harold Kluver and wife, Rose, of Alexandria; sisters, Dorothy Arne of Minneapolis, MN, Shirley Whitley of Alexandria, Lois Engle of Alexandria; Sandy Kummer and husband, Don, of Sauk Centre, MN and Linda Border and husband, Charlie, of Northfield, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
