It was a jolt to read in "The Oregonian" of Gordy's passing. I had talked to him by phone last month and we agreed to have lunch. It didn't happen.
I moved with my family from Canada to Portland in 1942. Gordy was the first person I met. It happened as my Mother was shopping at the the Lenz Market on Prescott Street. We lived three blocks up the street on 29th.
I was a year behind Gord at Alameda Grade School but because I had the same athletic interests , he let me play on...

Gordy was my husbands dear friend growing up in the Alameda area of Portland. He was loved by John, and remained friends most of their life.They shared many memories of their childhood and playing ball together.
