Henry Nagle Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Henry Elmer Nagle, Lt. Commander, USN (Ret.) Henry Elmer Nagle, age 82, a five- year resident of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Capistrano Beach, California, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005. He was born January 8, 1923, to Francis T. Nagle and Edith Pressler Nagle in Queens, New York. He had an older sister, Frances Nagle. Harry became a Navy pilot in 1942 and flew B-24 liberators in the VPB-104 patrol bombing squadron in the Pacific theater. His squadron received two presidential citations. VPB 104 was the only Navy squadron to receive two such awards. Following an honorable discharge in 1945, he attended the University of Chicago and received a B.S. and M.S. in Geology. He remained in the Naval Reserve and was recalled into the Korean War. He worked as an exploration geologist for Standard Oil (Chevron) of California and joined Aramco Services in Saudi Arabia in 1975. Subsequent to his first wife s illness while abroad, he returned to the U.S.A. and eventually retired in Houston. He and his wife, Linda had a son, Francis Nelson (Frank) Nagle. Harry was predeceased by his parents, sister, and his wife, Linda. In 1992, he married Marilyn Nagle of Houston and Austin. They lived in Capistrano Beach, California, for 13 years and eventually returned to Austin in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Blackstone Nagle of Austin; son, Frank N. Nagle of Shiner, Texas; stepson, Christopher Blackstone of Austin; cousins, Louise Miller and Norman Wilde, both of Philadelphia. Harry was a friend to all. There was hardly anyone who he did not help in some way or another at some time. His wit and intellect were unique and we were blessed to have had him on earth with us. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at St. Martin s Lutheran Evangelical Church at 606 West 15th Street with Reverend Albert Holck officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Honoring Harry as pallbearers will be Neal Blackstone, David E. Miller, Ryan Miller, John Laury, David Richards and Steve Brudniak. Honorary pallbearers will be Navy Squadron VPB-104, Aramco friends, and Standard Oil (Chevron) of California friends.

Thank you Marilyn for sharing Harry for all those years in OMP with Chris, Piper, and me. I never would have made it without you both. Harry always did anything he could to help make my life easier, especially when Piper had that terrible accident. My prayers and love are with you ...A gentle soul with a big heart is watching over all of us now...My best to you and Chris.

Much Love and appreciation,

Jeanette Schaefer
