ADAMS, Herbert A. - Of Flushing, age 83, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Genesys Regional Medical Center, after a brave and courageous battle with lung cancer. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Hope United Methodist Church, 4467 Beecher Road, Flint, Reverend John Clair Ferris officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lions, Fraternal Order of Police, American Cancer Society or charity of one's choice. Visitation 1PM-8PM Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held 7PM Friday at the funeral home under the auspices of Genesee Lodge No. 174, of which Herb was a member. Mr. Adams will be at the church from 10AM Saturday until the time of the service. Mr. Adams was born January 12, 1924 in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1942 and later attended the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville. Herb served in the Army during World War II as Sergeant from 1944-1945. He married Catherine E. Hite on March 1, 1947 in Flint. In 1949 he joined the Flint Police Department and retired in 1976 as Chief of Police for the City of Flint. He then went on to become Chief Administrator for Flint Township and Head of Security for Sunshine Foods. Herb continued to be an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Arrowhead Lodge, #126, of which he was a past state president. He was also very active in the Masonic Lodge and Oasis Shrine Club. Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Catherine E.; children, Jeannine (Hal) Romer of Davisburg, John (Mary) Adams of Clinton Township, And Clark Adams of Flint Township; grandchildren, Cynthia (James) Fan of San Jose, CA, Scott (Heather) Romer of Hamden, CT and Erin Adams of Clinton Township; great-grandson, Jack Fan of San Jose, CA; nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors. The news hits hard that Herb is gone. We know he is in a better place and our family's prayers are with you in this time.

My heart and prayers are sent out to the family of Herb. I was blessed to know this man many years. First from living in Flint Township and then when i worked for Sunshine Foods. Herb was an awesome man.

It was an honor to have Herb as my friend for over 25 years and I will truly miss him. He was a first class individual, a great Christian, family man and God now has his new Chief of Security, guarding Heaven.

My deepest sympathy to the Adams family and everyone that had the pleasure to know him. Herb was my neighbor for many years in Flushing. He was a great man and will be missed dearly!
