Not sure what to say?

Aw, what a flood of good memories filled my heart as I recalled the good fortune of having Mr Brenner for homeroom, from day one at EGRHS. Every day we started in a place with dry humor, acceptance and realistic expectations. Creative writing was my joy in school. He would tease some girls, call them Betty Crocker for some paper being late or sappy. My best day ever, he read my paper aloud, paused and shook his head, and said, "Thanks Mrs. Hemmingway, you made my day" Thanks Mr. Brenner, you...

Bren was a thoughtful, patient, considerate man who brought out the best in his students. He had intellect without arrogance and looked for the best in people. He would usually find it.

I am so sad to learn of "Mr. Brenner's" passing. I am a 1966 graduate of East Grand Rapids High School, currently residing in Atlanta. A classmate passed this news along to me. I remember being in his class - in fact I can remember the room he taught in at that time. He also was the faculty director of class plays I participated in. I can hear his voice - and his sense of humor - and see his smile when I think of him. When you've completed 16 years of education, you get introduced to...

I remember Mr. Brenner as being one of my favorite teachers at East. I think he was also my drivers ed teacher? My condolences to his family. ( I am also a beagle lover - and have always had one - didn't realize this at the time I was at East)

Single Memorial Tree

Mr. Brenner was the teacher that changed my life and set the course for my career as a writer and editor. He gave me the confidence and skills to pursue my love of the written word. I was fortunate to be able to speak with him a few years ago and share a few of my published stories.

He was a wonderful teacher. Passionate about his subject matter. He was a bear of a director of the school plays and musicals. And underneath his growl, which he used appropriately was a huge heart. So glad I had time with him on the planet. He had a long life and it sounds like it was a grand one.

Max and family, Although I never had him as a teacher while at East, I knew of the excellent teaching reputation he maintained. I will be sating prayers for all of you. My deepest sympathy.

My friends and I are reminiscing about our time as Mr Brenner´s students in 1982. He was a favorite from our time at EGR High School. One assignment was to spend time in the woods as Thoreau did. He was a great teacher! We were all lucky to be taught by him.
