HERBERT DARDIK

I was fortunate to be a Chief Resident of the Vascular Service at Montefiore Hospital sometime around 1974, and 1975. I say fortunate because Herb Dardik was the major surgeon, doing most of the vascular surgery on that service at that time. Not only was Herb and excellent surgeon, without question, but he was an excellent mentor and wonderful human being. Working with him and learning from him was ALWAYS a pleasure. How fortunate we have all been to have known the man.

Dr. Dardik was one of the most influential physicians I encountered during the early days of my nursing career at Englewood Hospital. It was obvious that he was a trailblazer, brilliant surgeon, and extraordinary leader. What most impressed me however was his kindness his compassion and his ability to connect with his patients and their families. He was indeed special and I have yet to find a more extraordinary physician in my 40+ years of practice.

My heart continues to hurt as another special person in my life is no longer with us. Dr. Herbert Dardik, better known to my family as Uncle Chaim was one of the most incredible, caring, loving, brilliant and dedicated person I knew. He was Chief Emeritus of Vascular and General Surgery at Englewood Hospital for more than 57 years and is recognized around the world as a founding father of vascular surgery.
His accomplishments were endless and beyond impressive..but as stated, never...

I had the honor of working with Dr. Dardik for most of my 36 years as a surgical technologist at Englewood Hospital. From the very start of my career Dr. Dardik taught me everything I knew about Vascular Surgery. His passion was infectious and his innovations were amazing. Doctors from all over the world came to see him operate the very technics he developed. My heart is heavy with the news of his passing but I know Dr. Dardik's legacy will forever be in history. Rest in peace Dr. Dardik....
