Herbert Hesse

While I only knew uncle Herby for a couple of years, it was definitely a pleasure knowing him. He was always energetic, funny, with a lot to talk about. Rest easy uncle Herby.

When I visited SF 25 years ago, Herb took me on his tour, but I did the driving. He was all "Hang a left here... no, not here... HERE!" As we talked about the city and the music scene, we got to talking about what at the time was the recent death of Jerry Garcia. He told me stories of the shows he had seen in the olden days, New Year's shows and the like, legendary performances that my very own cousin had attended. We talked about Jerry a bit, his life, the San Fran he saw in his youth,...

Herb was the best!

I will miss his visits to his Chicago cousins. Loved Herb.

I'm one of Herb's many relatives who, years ago, enjoyed his incomparable Yellow Cab tour of San Francisco! And during visits to his native Chicago over the years, Herb enjoyed going back to the neighborhoods of his early childhood. Incredibly, even though he left Chicago for the Golden West around the age of 6, he'd often point out things I never knew about my lifelong home! Herb was an amazing guy and will be missed!
