Herbert Vance McCartney, 79, Rt. 5, Clarksburg, passed away peacefully at his home, 4:50am, December 18, 2003. He was born on June 9, 1924 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Charles Bailey and Melissa Rogers McCartney.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bond McCartney; one son, David McCartney; and six daughters, Marsha San Julian, Joyce Marshall, Anita Robinson, Janet Wentz, Misty McCartney and Melissa McCartney; and two step children, Sharon Haddox and Mark Talkington. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, five step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Donna Silcott and Blanche Eyler; and one brother, Lindsey McCartney.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy McCartney, Charles McCartney, James McCartney and John McCartney and four sisters, Kate Roach, Marybelle Anderson, Jessie Roach and Belva Jeffries.

Mr. McCartney, a former sign painter and neon glass worker, was also a retired electrician with IBEW Local 596.

At his request he will be cremated with a private memorial service to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the United Home Health and People’s Hospice, P. O. Box 1680, Clarksburg, WV 26301-1680, or the American Cancer Society, 300 Scott Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26508. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and caretakers who treated him with respect and kindness during his extended illness.

My deepest regrets to the family,
my earliest memory of Herbert was when I was very little and he would tell me stories, my favorite was the Uncle Remus story.Herbert nicknamed me Miss Mibbles. I tell
the same stories to my grand children.
