Herbert A. Prescott, age 85, of Cross Street in Farmington, died April 17, 2008 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born December 1, 1922 in Alton, son of the late George A. and Florence Prescott, he resided in Farmington for 80 years and was a graduate of Farmington High School, Class of 1940.
A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he served with the 28th Infantry Division, the 112nd Regiment, Company A, during the Normandy Invasion, where he was combat wounded at St. Lo. He was recipient of a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge.
He was retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
An avid golfer, he was a shareholder at the Farmington Country Club. He also had been a member of a bowling team at Bowlaway Lanes in Rochester. He was a member of the American Legion in Farmington for 38 years.
Widower of the late Eleanor M. (Olson) Prescott, who died in 2007, he is survived by 2 sons: Donald S. Prescott of Farmington and Thomas R. Prescott of Grapevine, Texas, 5 Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews and close friends: Clark and Janet Hackett of Farmington. He was predeceased by a grandson, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:00 am at Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH 03835, with the calling hour prior to the service from 10-11 am.
