Nottingham: Herbert C. Smith, Jr, 80, of Nottingham passed away quietly at the Hyder House Hospice on Sun., Nov. 22nd after a brief illness.

Herbert was born on Jan. 24, 1929 in Deerfield, NH; the son of Herbert C, Sr. and Grace (Cilley) Smith.

Herb served in the Marines during the Korean War and was employed for many years as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Helen; his son Jamie and his wife, Tammy Smith of Lee, NH; his daughter Mary of NH and daughters Patty and Joannie of FL; his stepdaughter to Deborah McKinstry of Bedford, NH and his stepsons, Gary McKinstry of Fl, Patrick McKinstry of TX and William McKinstry of ID; his brother Alfred and sisters, Marie and Joann of Nottingham, NH; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Timothy of Barrington, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hyder House, 285 County Farm Rd, Dover, NH 03820.

I loved my Grampa so much and miss him.

I really loved my Grampa. He was very kind. I really miss him. It was fun riding in the tractor with him. He was an awesome Grampa.

I will never forget my father, or stop missing him. He was always there ....

It was a great pleasure to have known Herb. He and Helen trusted us many times with their son , Jamie. Our boys grew up together and remain friends. Our sincere condolences. Pam and Buzz

Please accept our sympathy. Herbie was the best. I enjoyed working with him in the past. Herbie was always such a happy man that many looked up to. I am sure glad I got to see him while back in nh last october.

It is hard to believe you are gone. You seemed like you would be here for ever. Hayden and Felicia miss you so much, you were such a constant part of their lives. Jamie and I will help keep your memory alive for them of the fun, tractor ride giving grandfather who adored them so much.
