Not sure what to say?

I was a young child when he was the pastor in Zeeland. I remember at the end of the evening service he said the Jewish blessing as benediction "God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and give you peace."

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Dear Mrs. VanderLugt:
Upon my return from Germany I found an e-mail from Jeff Vander Heide letting me know of your husband's homegoing. My prayers shall be with you and your family. Having traveld that road almost seven years ago, I know the things you are going through at present. What a comfort it is to know that the Lord goes beside us each step of the way. II Corinthians 5:8 - and we get to see them again. May His grace sustain you.

You are in our prayers and thoughts as we are both saddened by your lose and yet know that we will all meet again a much better place.

In Christ,

Dan and Jackie,
I just learned of your dad’s passing from my mom. I was so sad to hear the news. I last saw your father at the funeral home before my dad’s funeral in June of 2004. (My Dad was Rev W. Glen Campbell.) Herb was the one who suggested that my dad should be on the Baptist Haiti Mission Board and was also instrumental in Dad becoming a Pastor/Counselor at Radio Bible Class back in 1966. I have a mental picture of Dad and Herb having a coffee break together in their new...

Herb was a special friend and mentor in ministry; I not only got to enjoy learning from him, but for the last five years, I drove the Buick he owned. Comfortable, dependable and durable it was, just like Herb. I will never forget how he prayed for and rejoiced for the church in Holland he knew so well as they began to grow in recent days. It's hard to describe the value of a man like Herb. I praise the Lord for him.

Pastor VanderLugt married my husband and me Dec 22, 1961...that was almost 45 years ago.
I read his writing in the RBC booklet often. I always looked for his initials HVL and read his entries first.

I have always known Herb VanderLugt to consistently exemplify the character traits of a man of God. Heaven's gain in truly our loss.

Dear family,
We got to know Pastor Van way back in 1962 when he was at Spring Lake and have enjoyed Pastor and Virginia's friendship many times over the years.
Pastor Van and my wife, Joyce, shared the same birth date - Jan 7 - which was remembered several times with telephone calls or birthday cards. She would call his question and answer program to wish him happy birthday.
We will miss him but look forward to seeing him again when we all get together in heaven.
