Herbert Zettl

"Dr. Zettl!", I called out in order to catch up with him. "HERB, call me Herb," he said, as we walked up Holloway on a warm, sunny day in March. He was the reason for me selecting SFSU and majoring in BCA in 1973 after Bucks CCC in PA. I made sure he knew that. He had a significant impact on my life, as he did for many, without doubt.

Sight Sound Motion. Thank you Herb. It got me to the big time.

Before there were sfx, there was Professor Zettl! He paved the way to do sfx, maybe he was a special effect. What he wrote and lectured about will have a lasting effect on me, as I reflect on what taught me in the past, I utilize in the present, and attempt to understand in the future. Thanks for all of the above as you move into the z-axis of memory. RIP

One of my all time favorite profs at SF State when I was working on my Master´s in the mid 80s. Z axis, chiaroscuro lighting, triptychs and so much more. So many thanks to you, Herb Zettl. I still think of what you taught us.
