QUEENSBURY Herman "Harold" Celadon, 84, of Midnight Drive, Queensbury, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness, with his loving family by his side. Born in the Panama, Central America on July 2, 1924, he was the only child of the late Vittore and Assunta D. (Golin) Celadon. Raised in Italy, Harold attended high school and college there, until the age of 25, then relocated to the United States in December of 1949. He lived with his dad in Glens Falls while continuing his love of learning. During World War II, he was a Prisoner of War in Germany for two years. He married Barbara (Colotti) and they had two children, Teresa and Vic, to whom he devoted his entire life as a loving and encouraging father. Harold is most noted for his love of family and spending time with his kids, Vic and Teresa, and later on his grandchildren, Christina Celadon and Melissa Miller. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always doing errands, dog sitting and baby sitting. Harold worked as a plant manager at local concrete plants, most recently employed at Clemente Latham North. He also worked at Colotti shoe repair and did construction with his dad. As an avid sportsman, and reader, Harold enjoyed skiing with his "Gore Mt. Gang", and also bicycling, and of course, soccer. He especially enjoyed his ski trips to Italy and Tahoe with his son, Vic. He coached soccer at ACC, the YMCA, various summer leagues, and most recently at the Adirondack Sports Complex. His love for sports and children drove him to share his knowledge and expertise with many local athletes. He could always be seen at various sporting events, whether for his granddaughter or just to follow the local athletes. Harold was the happiest when skiing, playing soccer, or teaching sports to children of all ages. Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Miller and her husband, Doug, and their daughter, Melissa, all of Queensbury; one son, Vic Celadon and his wife, Terry, both of Laurinburg, N.C., and their daughter, Christina Celadon of Clemson, S.C.; the mother of his children, Barbara Denig of Queensbury; several family members in Italy and South America, and many friends locally. Friends may call upon the family Thursday, July 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, with the Rev. Joseph Anselment, retired pastor and friend, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Glens Falls. Donations, in loving memory of Harold, may be made to the Glens Falls National Bank, 696 Upper Glen St., Queensbury, New York, 12804, ITF Harold Celadon Soccer Scholarship at the Adirondack Sports Complex, or to a charity of one's choice. Harold's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. William Tedesco and Dr. Kevin Herhlihy and the wonderful nurses at Glens Falls Hospital, Tower 3, who took such good care of him during his last two weeks. Condolences may be e-mailed through www.bakerfuneralhome.com or mailed to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

Not sure what to say?

To you, Vic and your families my warmest regards at this sad time. Harold was a wonderful man who lived a long and full life. Cherish those memories.

Dad,
It’s been only 12 days since you left us. I still can’t believe it. I’m back in Queensbury, sitting at your computer, typing in your obituary guest book…… it seems like a dream. I’m waiting for you to walk in your kitchen door, and it won’t happen. I was at “The Dome” tonight having a glass of wine with Teresa and some other family and friends. I was waiting for you to walk in, and it didn’t happen. I waited for your call last Sunday at home in North Carolina to tell me about the...

Harold was a wonderful and erudite man who was so kind to my children, and everyone really, that i know we and all who Harold knew will never forget him. My deepest sympathies to Vic and Terry and the extended family.
