"Are you Dr. Hoeksema's son? Yes I am, how do you know my dad? Well, he gave me a new knee, fixed my wife's hip, my daughter's broken arm, and my son's broken leg." "That's pretty wild" would usually be my response as it seemed almost everyone I would meet growing up in Muskegon would have the...

Not sure what to say?

I was shocked and saddened to hear that Herm had passed away from cancer. He repaired both of my hips and my mother was his office manager for many years. We always had a lot of respect for his talents as an orthopedic surgeon and as a truly caring person. God speed Dr. Hoeksema and thanks for your wonderful care.

Remembering a wonderful colleague from many years at Hackley Hospital, but met at U of M Medical School. Was fun hearing about the family thru the years. So very sorry to hear of his cancer. In thoughts and prayers, Richard "Mac" Williams, M.D. and Mardi Monroe Williams (patient of fixed shattered elbow)

Thanks so much Herm & Kathy for being such gracious hosts for our ski trips to your Colorado house. I´m glad I got to know you and will miss your great sense of humor.

An awesome tribute to an awesome father and friend Marc...

RIP Doc, you deserve it. I worked with him for many years at Hackley Hospital; a great ortho doctor, so many stories I could tell. Good vibes to his family.

He never gave me a new knee or hip, but I retrieved many a film for him in Hackley Hospital´s Radiology Department. I remember standing along side him as he discussed cases with Dr Richard Wilcox. These men impressed me so much, I went into radiology myself. We also had discussions about the Muskegon Yacht Club, as I learned to sail there too; even going on to have my wedding reception there in 1993. God speed, Doc, you were an inspiration to many. Blessings to his family during this...

Some of the greatest times of my life: skiing, scuba diving and sailing with Herm. Say Hello to Cal.

He was my buddy. Living in this woods, it was a great sense of security knowing he was just a shout a way. Marc, I think this was the most touching obituary I´ve ever read. God I miss him.......
