Doc was a mentor and a friend. He taught me to seek my passions without fear. He taught me critical thinking and how to let myself grow. He was generous to a fault and never turned anyone away. He will always be in my thoughts.

Having just turned in my grades for the Fall semester yesterday, and thinking of my former students, led me to thinking of my former professors. On searching I discovered Doc's obituary. I am sorry that I did not hear in time to share my condolences sooner. I know he lives on in many. I can see that in what you wrote Lorrie, as I saw him in you when we were in Jamaica more than 30 years ago. He lives on in me as well in how I relate to my students. Facts unknown; I have known Herman since elementary school (Bose Elementary - Kenosha, WI) and I gave him the nicknamed "DOC" because he could look into a microscope and tell you what was on the water slide. Also, Herman taught me how to ride a motorcycle, something that I still enjoy now. He will be sadly missed.
