I jumped with Herm in Spartan Stadium, and attended the meets, but was never called on by Coach Winter to compete. My greatest achievement in the high jump was to set the bar for Herm, while
competing with Bill Russell, in a three-way SJS, USF, Stanford, meet at Stanford Stadium, when Herm
set a new stadium record of 6' 8" +. On or off the pit, Herm moved beautifully, and taught me
