HERMIT BENJAMIN WOLFE, age 94 years, a resident of Jimtown, WV departed this life early Thursday morning, January 31, 2013 at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins, WV. He was born Friday, August 16, 1918 at Hemlock, WV to the late Ephraim and Naomi Zirkle Wolfe. He was married to the former Mary Lorraine Elmore, who preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Benjamin Wolfe and wife Patricia; Roger Lee Wolfe and wife Wanda, all of Warren, OH; four grandchildren, Tammy Dalrymple and husband Walt; the Rev. Kennith Wolfe, Jr. and wife Marlene; Jeffery Wolfe; and Kim Schoonover; six great grandchildren, Amanda; Renden; Logan; and Marshall Wolfe; Alex Bronsen; and Valerie Dalrymple and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are four sisters; three brothers; four step sisters; and two step brothers. Hermit served in the Civilian Conservation Corp as a young man at Glady, WV and was a proud Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II in the European Campaign in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany with the 40th Engineers. He was a United Mine Worker's of America worker for twenty seven years in the mines of Randolph County and was a construction worker, working for the Labor Union of Clarksburg WV for fifteen years. He also worked for Home Hardware of Elkins for many years. He was a person who loved to talk and never met a stranger. He was an avid gardener who loved his potato patch, loved to hunt and fish and greatly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Sunday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Monday, February 4, 2013 at 1:30 PM. The Rev. John Frum, a nephew of Hermit, will officiate and interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown, WV, where the H. W. Daniel's Post # 29, American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the WV National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Phillips Chapel Church and Cemetery Fund.
