Not sure what to say?

I got my first paid comedy gig with Mr Rutland. It was in a basement of a pizza joint in Grinnel Iowa. We each got paid $26 and a free pizza. We did many shows together and became close. My kids loved playing Mario Kart with him, and he took me to Florida to see the ocean for the first time. Hiawatha was humble, intelligent and a comedy genius. Love and embrace the people God gave you, because one day He will need them back. God bless!

Miss you Chief. You were the first friend I made when I got to Iowa State in 2002. I was glad I got to partner up with you in acting class and join you in some open-mic comedy. Thanks for coming into my life and bringing laughs and great memories.

My friend Hiawatha Rutland I am going to miss you dearly. I was very sad to hear that you passed away and I am sorry I missed that last call from you. I am very happy that I worked with you at Bronx Aerospace High School. I would like to thank your mother Ms.Rutland for raising such a wonderful person. Ms.Ruthland I heard a lot about you from Hiawatha and my God only knows how much he loves you and how much you meant to him. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Ruth Austin, New York

Geri you have my deepest sympathy in the loss of your son. May you find comfort in the many memories that you hold in your heart. Praying for your family.

On behalf of City College of New York alumni and faculty, I extend my love and long distance support during this time of grieving - I know in true Hiawatha fashion, you sent him home to the Lord with a few laughs and funny stories while trying to wrap your mind around such a tragic event. Hiawatha always found a way to "lighten the mood" and he touched all of us in the NYCTF cohort because of it. We will miss your spirit, your humor, your genuine words and deeds for the youth of...
