A Love for Clothes
Tomoko Kawauchi's husband, Hideya, loved three things: her, of course, the beach and shopping. On Sept. 8, the two packed a picnic lunch and went to Belmar Beach in New Jersey. They spent half the day there since Brooks Brothers closes at 6 p.m. on Saturdays. And nothing made Mr. Kawauchi happier than spending part of his day shopping for the latest in men's casual wear.

"He changed frequently," says his wife. "He had a lot of clothes. Much more than me. He had 15 shoes. I have maybe 5."

Mr. Kawauchi, 36, was born in Chiba, Japan. After he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1993, he wanted to work in New York but could not find a job in the city. He returned to Japan and got a job at Fuji Bank, where he met his wife. They were married in 1995. In 1997, Mr. Kawauchi, a general affairs officer, was transferred to the Fuji Bank division at 2 World Trade Center. The Kawauchis moved to Fort Lee, N.J., because they had friends in the area.

"There is also a Japanese restaurant and supermarket," Mrs. Kawuachi said.

And Brooks Brothers only minutes away.

In memory....

As I stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.

Kawauchi-san was very brave and responsible person. I saw him coming out from the elevator on the 78th floor in the morning of 9-11. He went up to check making sure that everybody left the office.

He was super smart with the best personality! We all miss you. Thank you for everything.

R.I.P everybody will remember you.
