I met Hiep only a few times, but her light shone so brightly, what a beautiful soul. I would like to share the following prayer -- I lost a dear friend to brain cancer a few years ago, and the following prayer spilled out of my mother's mouth in her last moments. I know I am meant to share it. I felt God's presence in that moment as my friend was given to eternal life - and I know Hiep is safe in God's arms.

Dear Lord,

We come before you
In a spirit of praise and thanksgiving,

You, who are the beginning and end,
of all that is,

You have said that where two or more are gathered in your name,
There you are in the midst of them,

Be in our midst now
As we lift up to you your beloved daughter Hiep,
Who lived her life in the love of others,

Take her into your arms and give her to you,
knowing how much she is loved by you,
and by those whose lives she touched,

You loved her before time began
And you will love her long after time ends,

Enfold her into your peace,
And into that peace, which passes all understanding
That will never end.

Amen

Dearest Hiep, I feel so fortunate to have met and worked with you and to be your friend. You are an inspiration - as a person, a friend, a mother, a wife, a daughter - an artist in all realms & dimensions. Happy transition. I will miss you. ❤ Elizabeth

Dear Hiep,
You and I may have been traveling on divergent lines, you are my kindred spirit. Your passing has saddened me, inexplicably to the core, lost. Now, your living, your courage and your conviction will be the inspiration I need to continue fighting my way home. Thank you dear one. Until we meet again...may you rest In peace. Mo

My name is Barbara. I am a very close friend of Hiep's sister, Hoa. My son, Joel, and Hoa's son. Juatin are friends as well. We are heartbroken to hear of the loss of such an amazing person, mother, daughter, sibling, wife and friend. Her legacy will live on. I never met her personally, but through Hoa, knew of her and this horrible fight with cancer. The pain is over, and as I told Hoa, there is a special place in heaven for angels like Hiep. Our thought, hearts, prayers and condolences are with you all. Barbara and Joel. Summit, New Jersey

Dear Jinn and Family,
There's a small school of us left who believes in the power of films - not TV, not cable, not the instant gratification of a plot resolved in minutes to one hour. Life is like films. We love films, because the best of them tries to deceptively solve the seemingly unsolvable, how to end misery and sorrows and how to keep the love and joys multiplying while masquerading as filmed entertainment. The best minds and talents come together for a very short period of time trying, fighting with tooth and nail, bombarding each other like atoms in a very tight space like in the nucleus of a star to create light photons, to bring to the surface something that hopefully will delight and serve as a beacon, or bright star for weary travelers in the dark of night. And there was no star that shone brighter than Hiep in Mr. Stone's Heaven and Earth (spell check just tried to replace Hiep's name with Hope as I type this - there's too prophecy in the best of films and everything we do daily) and there were many other bright stars surrounding Hiep starting with Mr. Stone, Debbie Reynolds, Tommy Lee Jones, Dr. Ngor, Joan Chen, Dustin Nguyen and on and on. We were all there to ensure that Hiep fulfilled Mr. Stone's vision and to shine a light on the unsolvable - the effects of war and its aftermath on a tiny Vietnamese woman Lely Hayslip, And man did Hiep outshine everyone not just by design or the structure of the film - Hiep outshined on her own with her feistiness, inquisitiveness, And instinctive emotions and intelligence - she didn't dissapoint me or anyone who gave 2000% to support her - so I knew Hiep gave 4000% more than we did. The natural instinct is to be sad and I am saddened by this news. But above all rejoice in Hiep's achievements in shining a bright light in her time with us (to a clever, bright photon like Hiep, 46 years versus a million years is timeless - she was here before we were and she will be there again when we're fortunate enough to bombard with her again). Some people go through a life time not knowing what their role is on earth, how to serve. Rejoice that Hiep knew her role well and served magnificently - 100 years from now, there will be a student of wars and history asking his master what did people of Vietnam war look like and how did they suffer? And the master will press on a laser beam that will flicker images in student's mind of Heaven and Earth with smiling, crying, suffering, mischievous, and fulfilled Hiep and if we do it right - the student will begin to understand - that's the power of films. That's the power of Hiep - Godspeed, Hiep!

Dear Hiep, I'm writing this with a broken heart, in total shock and disbelief. I met you 20 years ago, when your beloved husband Djinn and I were teammates on Sunday pickup soccer games in Will Rogers Park. You used to surprise us by cooking the most delicious food at our post game hangouts. But more than anything you were one of the most generous, compassionate, and loving people I've ever met. You will be remembered not only in our minds, but in our hearts forever! My deepest condolences to your family and friends.

Hiep, you were an amazing woman with an amazing history. As an author of a refugee story myself about the great diaspora, I can relate to your family history and all you went through to have a wonderful life in America. I am saddened beyond belief and can't imagine what you family is going through right now. You were strong, courageous, and a fighter beyond words. As a tribute to you and your family, I want you to know that there are people out there like myself who appreciate everything you brought to this world. There are simply not enough people like you and you will forever be in our hearts.
