Hilda Clark-Grant Obituary

Hilda Clark-Grant, 99, passed away April 15, 2015, surrounded by her family. Hilda was born August 21, 1915 in Salford, England to John and Jessie Bradshaw.
She leaves her son Robert R. Clark, Jr. (Barbara); grandsons Robert III and Andrew Clark; stepdaughters Laurie Reidle and Susan Grant and their children Derek, Melissa and Emily Rose and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States as well as England, Canada and Australia.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Robert R. Clark and beautiful daughter Lynne Alison Clark. Also predeceased by second husband William F. Grant with whom she shared one happy year of love and companionship.
In 1922 Hilda's family immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio where Hilda attended high school and following graduation, business school. She married a dashing young man from Scotland and together they took up residence in Charlotte, North Carolina where their children Lynne and Rob were born. Hilda worked as a medical secretary at a urological clinic in Charlotte and later as the clinic's business manager. She founded the Charlotte, NC Medical Secretary Association.
After they moved to Hickory in 1943, Hilda served as Hospital Administrator of Hickory Memorial Hospital and Secretary of the Cataba County Hospital Administrators Association, retiring in 1950. There was a move to Prairie Village and then Leawood in Kansas.
After 5 years of winters spent in Arizona they chose Sun City for their retirement. They were charter members of Palmbrook Country Club where Hilda, for a time, served on the Board of Directors. She was an avid golfer and won tournaments into her 80's. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Hilda Clark-Grant, our mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend was a dynamic woman to who love of family and friends was paramount. She was an avid reader, extensive traveler and excellent cook and hostess. She had an unflagging curiosity and total engagement with life and all its possibilities.
For the last few years Hilda had been a resident of Casa Del Rio independent living in Peoria, AZ where she continued to volunteer and expand her knowledge and from where she leaves many friends.
A Memorial Service at Faith Presbyterian Church, Sun City will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 P.M. Private graveside services will be held at Mount Moriah in Kansas City.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Hospice of the Valley who cared so wonderfully for her daughter, Lynn or Children's Society of NC or the Salvation Army, the favorite charity of her late husband Bob.
Hilda was a positive example of a life well lived to those of us who loved her.

Hilda was one of my dearest friends of 50 or more years. We were fridge partners and golfers in Kansas, went to England, Scotland, France and Italy with two of our good friends, Korky Youngblood and Janie Fawcette having a wonderful time. Hilda and Bob visited my husband, Harold and I in California, and we saw them more than once in Sun City. I am so saddened to learn only this day in August of her passing. How I loved her, and enjoyed her wit! I last heard from her early this year. I send love and sympathy to Rob and his family.

Hilda introduced a dear girlfriend, Lucille, to the brother (Dave)of her fiancé, Bob . Lucille and Dave married before Hilda and Bob did. Lucille and Dave had two girls. I was the youngest and Laurel was my older sister. We always felt that without Hilda, we may never have been born. We loved sitting around telling stories about our growing up in Cleveland, Ohio and listening to tales from Hilda. She had such a great memory and loved to tell stories about the wonderful things that occurred in her long life. We were so blessed to have her friendship and love over the 20 years since our parents died in '95. I want to be as loving and gracious as she was when I get older.

Having spent many happy breaks with Hilda I learned what a wonderful lady she was. Either playing golf, talking about golf, eating out or just sat in Hilda was always full of life and advice. Thank you Hilda for all the good times you will be sadly missed. Regards, Gary Bentley from England.

Aunt Hilda was the personification of human strength, courage, and love that provided her a rich and full life. I'll always remember her positive spirit and pride in displaying her "Family Hall of Fame" home photos.

Thank you Aunt Hilda for your towering model in life. Rest in peace.

With great admiration and love,

Nephew John Baxter Bradshaw
