Not sure what to say?

I drove from Mt. Whitney high school daily, with a carload of classmates, to Sra. Ortiz's 4th year Spanish class. We had a challenging year working hard to be better students of the language. That was the year that I read Don Quixote in Spanish - wow that was tough! We also had fun in her class - I remember lots of laughter and fiestas complete with authentic food, that Sra. Ortiz would bring for us to try. What a dedicated teacher and passionate woman she was. Thank you Hilda for your light.

I only had Mrs. Ortiz for one year of Spanish. She also taught my older sister Esther and my older brother Leonard. We all have very fond memories of her as a teacher. I got to know her better after high school and came to recognize that she was a very dynamic person with lots of energy and her own personal style. The twinkle in her eyes conveyed her love of life and of her family. I can see that in this photo of her. I will remember her fondly and wish to express my sincerest condolences to...

Very sad to hear of Hilda's death. My condolences to the entire family. She was a very effervescent presence at Redwood High School.

Irene, Anita, and Hildy,
My regards and sincere condolences to you and your families. May God bless and comfort you.

I was just thinking of Senora Ortiz the other day, and wishing I had studied harder. She was a great teacher! Condolences to Irene, Anita and Hildy and families.

I was honored to be in Mrs. Ortiz Spanish Class for three years at Redwood back in the 50's. Wonderful memories. She was awesome, kind, funny, and an interesting teacher. I have great respect and care for her. Gracias Senora Ortiz.
Sincero, Arvilla

She adored her grandchildren. Here she is with two of them.

Mi Tia Hilda was such an amazing woman. She brought joy wherever she was. When she taught -- you were encouraged to excel and to have fun doing it. Words fail me. I will miss her so much.

I loved Senora Ortiz as both my favorite teacher in high school and as the mom of my dear friend Irene. She was so vibrant and excited her students to excel and enjoy the Spanish language and culture.
In her home, I loved it when she called me "mija". She was a beautiful person, an absent-minded professor, and a joy to all who knew her.

Senora Ortiz was my Spanish teacher for three years at Redwood High School. She was a great teacher and an even better person. I saw her a couple of years after I graduated and she still remembered me and asked how I was doing. She will truly be missed by me and I am sure thousands of her students. My condolences to her family.
