Hines H. Baker, Jr. passed away on Sunday, the 19th of August 2018, at Houston Hospice following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas to Hines Holt Baker and Thelma Kelly at Methodist Hospital. He was a longtime resident of River Oaks
In his early years, he attended Montrose Elementary and was first graduating class at Lamar High School. Later graduated from Phillips Academy in 1941. Graduated university of Texas 1947, while at University of Texas he was a Phi Beta Kappa. Yale Law School class of 1950.
After graduating Law School his first assignment was with Vinson & Elkins as an Oil & Gas attorney, and later he practiced Estate Law. He not only took pride in his business but truly relished the friends he made during his time as an Attorney.
He was an avid golfer, a longtime member at River Oaks Country Club. Hines was a senior Member of Allegro, Houston Philosophical Society, Museum of Fine Arts and Board of Directors of Holly Hall Retirement Community.
His son Hines Holt, III preceded him in death on January 3, 2010. He leaves his wife Ruth Jarvis Baker of 45 years. He also leaves behind Stephen B. Baker (son) of Houston, Texas, Richard W. Baker (son) of Jonesboro, Georgia. Extended family includes Ruth Jarvis of Houston, Texas and Robert Jarvis of Crested Butte, Colorado as well as, granddaughters, Bonnie Baker, Ashley Baker, grandson Paul Baker, and great-grandson, Blake Ruzzo and brother Ross Baker.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 23rd of August, in the chapel of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston, where Rev. Bill Denham, Pastor of Caring Ministries, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Hines Baker room.
