Hiroshi Charles Matsushima

Dear Janie, You probably don't remember me, but we met you and Chuck back in the early-mid '60s when my husband was in dental school and I was in nursing school. We shopped at Anzen a lot! We followed the store when it moved to Beaverton, and then back to the original site. We loved talking, laughing and joking with Chuck. He was a breath of fresh air! We enjoyed sharing holiday greetings with you, too! In fact, I was the nurse/calligrapher for (I think) your first grandchild that was born...

We are SO sorry to hear about Chuck passing away ! :( We were always going to Anzens even when the kids were little. They loved going there and talking to everyone at the store. We miss going there. Rest in Peace Chuck. You will be missed. From Rendy,Danny,Tanya and Tina

Mr. Matsushima was always very kind to me as a child when going to Anzen store with my mother and to my own children when I introduced them to the differences contained in "the store" and Mr. Matsushima.
He is missed.

I will not forget Mr. Matsushima. When we first came back from Japan in 1986 we were broke and kind of depressed. Going to Anzen with the baby was so uplifting. When the baby started to walk he couldn't wait to get the Japanese candy Mr. Matsushima would give him. So Sorry for the loss the family is suffering now.

I was sorry to hear that Mr. Matsushima passed away in December. Anzen was a weekly stop for over 25 years. Like Japanese stores in Hawaii where I grew up, it was filled with all the familiar foods and sundry items one might need. A store that I still miss after all these years. A store that cannot be replaced by any other much like its kind and friendly proprietor. Aloha, Mr. Matsushima You have been missed and will continue to be missed. My deepest sympathy to the family.

I worked for Chuck from 1973 to 1978 ! Nice family and were very good to me, never forget the Japanese culture they taught me. Will miss you !
