Mr. Horace Witt, 97, a life long resident of Lake City, died early Monday morning, April 10, 2006 at the Lake City Medical Center after an extended illness. He was the son of the late Daniel Elbert and Nellie Farnell Witt. Mr. Witt was a member of Old Providence Baptist Church. He was a school bus driver for several years during the 1950’s, he owned and operated his farm during his entire life and worked at Florida State Prison for eleven years until he retired.

Mr. Witt is survived by his wife of 74 years, Clarice Bailey Witt, Lake City, one son, Kenneth Witt (Louise), Lake City. Four grandchildren, Martha Kay Norris (Wayne), Valerie Ryals (Rocky), Larry Witt and Gary Witt (Tracy), all of Lake City, nine great grandchildren, Jeffrey Norris, Travis and Ashley Ryals, Leslie, Hailey , Shelby, Kloe, Regina and Dylan Witt and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Witt will be conducted on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 3:00 P.M. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Rodney Baker and Reverend Paul Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
