Read MoreI only spoke with Howard on the phone, but I always knew when his name came up and I needed to speak to him, that he would be a real bright spot in my day. He always had a smile in his voice, and a kind word for me. I looked forward to it. I'm glad I had the chance to meet him. You have my deepest sympathy.

I enjoyed Howard when we both played in the Community Band. I also appreciated his kindness when our son, Michael, died six years ago. I always liked and respected Howard.
