Read MoreHoward, probably had many talents, but I knew him through his stock car driving in Tulsa. He drove #67, a pretty yellow and black '39 Ford sponsored by Stone Trucking. When he was in a race, he usually finished first or second. And, I recall him wearing a white dress shirt, no tie, making a classy look. Quite a guy.

I was a big fan of the stock car races at the Fairgrounds during the 50's. Howard was the king, but he got good competition from the likes of Tommy Vardeman and Jack Penwell.
