Before I even had the opportunity to meet Howard or work with him in the 1st district, I constantly heard him on the radio in the 8th district, leading by example. He, as a lieutenant, was forever answering calls for service or writing reports just to keep the "backlog" down. When he arrived in the 1st district, it was no different. I came to know Joey at St. Frances Cabrini grammar school, and I have nice memories of him. He was a great guy. We went on to attend the same high school. My heartfelt condolences to the entire family and his closest friends.

I knew Joe since kindergarten at St. Francis Cabrini and all through the years at Brother Martin High School. Although I have not kept in touch with him since those days, I do remember him well. To the Heffernan Family: I knew your father many, many years ago. He and I went to grammer school together at St. Francis Cabrini elementary school. We had a big group that all hung out together in the afternoons and had a great time. I have not seen him in many years but I wanted to express my condolences to you. He was a wonderful friend back then and I know he will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Sue Sue, We are shocked to learn of Joe's passing, just found out about it yesterday. I cannot even begin to understand what you must be going through. You know I remember when you and Joe first met, We really liked him and thought you two made a great couple, I know you made each other very happy.
