Not sure what to say?

I was another of Jeff's Duke friends;unfortunately,we were out of touch for many years; I was a bit intimidated by his intelligence. This day has turned very black for me, learning of his passing; why do we let opportunities for communication go by?

I just learned of Jeff's death. I attended Duke with him where we became very good friends and remained so for many years as we both left Duke for the Army within months of each other. Jeff was very kind, had a brilliant mind, and cared deeply for is animal friends.
I am proud to have known him and am deeply sorry we lost touch in the last 10 years. It is comforting to hear that others also treasured his friendship.

I just heard of Jeff's passing and had to let you know how sorry I am. Jeff and I went to FHS together, graduating in 1964. I lived in Riverside, also. While I had lost contact with many high school friends while away at college, I have fond memories of those high school years. Peace be with you.

Having had the privilege of Jeff's friendship for 35 years, that he never revealed much of what is contained here in his obituary, especially regarding his valor during the war, is not surprising. He was gifted in so many ways and was modest and self-effacing far out of proportion to those gifts. I will miss his being on this earth--and trust that he is at peace. To Jeff's family I extend my sympathy.

Jeff was one of the gentlest souls I ever knew, and had a poetic nature that was rare. Twice when I was alone and far from home and became very ill, he took care of me until I was well - he was responsible for many quiet kindnesses that few suspected. Knowing you was a highlight of life for me, Jeff.

My husband,Norman, and I lived near Jeff on RT 17 , Jeff and Norman spent alot of time together talking. Jeff was unique and he loved his dogs Alice and Maggie greatly. After Norman passed in 2003 I moved on to a different life, Jeff was a treasure. I pray he is at peace. He often spoke of Alabama with love. He will be missed.

Dear family,
I'm so sorry to learn of Jeff's passing. He was a gentle soul and I do pray that he is now at peace. Sadly, by getting to know him years ago, I learned the truth of Machiavelli's adage that "wars begin when you will, but they do not end when you please."
