No Words for the View
Having struggled with Crohn's disease, an intestinal illness, for most of his life, Howard Lee Kane had little patience for anyone in a bad mood. His tonic was laughter, and whether it was a new joke he would e-mail to friends or a funny story about that day at the office, he had the gift to make people smile.
Mr. Kane, 40, was the comptroller at Windows on the World, a job he loved, said his wife, Lori, because it combined his passion for cooking with a view he called "halfway to heaven." Mr. Kane, who lived in Hazlet, N.J., put in long days that began at 4:30 a.m. He commuted more than an hour each way. But his only complaint about work, his wife said, was that he lacked the words to describe the sunsets and view.
He had little time during the week to cook or chat with the couple's 11-year-old son, Jason, so Sunday mornings became a father-son-only time for waffles and fishing down at the dock. "They were best friends," said Mrs. Kane.

I was a Dwight Morrow high school classmate of Howie's ...class of '79. I learned of his passing years later and was deeply saddened that such a tragedy had happened to a fellow classmate. This month we will visit the 9/11 memorial for the first time. My prayers are with Howard as he rests in Gods loving arms and with all of his family. May God Bless you all.

Riposa in pace

To the Kane Family- God rest Howie's soul. I am DMHS class of 77 and did not know that Howie was at the WTC. I happened to come across a list and saw Howie listed as someone from DMHS '79. I recognized the name but could not place the face. I immediately went to my HS yearbook. I then recognized him as the friendly, always smiling sophmore from our days in DMHS. I am so sad that such a wonderful person is gone, but joyful that he grew up to be such a highly thought of person. Based on...

I knew Howard through work. I think of him often. Seeing the picture of him on this site made me smile instantly. He was such a good and kind person. As his family, you know this but also know that even people he casually came in contact knew this about him. Jason, he talked about you daily. I felt like I knew you some days. May God Bless your family.
