The Birmingham (Alabama) Barons' last 20-game winner. 23-3 in 1961, 230 innings pitched. Quite a year!

All "south siders" knew Howie as a great sportsman!.. Not sure whether he knew Tom Nass, another great pitcher from Oshkosh. Would really have been something to see both in a game. Good time and memories to grow up in...GOD BLESS!

Karen, so sorry to read of Howie's passing. I think he and my brother "Whitey" are in heaven tossing a ball around and talking of the good ole days. You and your family are in my prayers. May your memories be a source of comfort.

To the Koplitz Family: Mr. Koplitz was a hero of mine when I was growing up. He was one of my favorite pitchers with the Washington Senators. He was always very kind to the kids at the stadium posing for photos and signing autographs. I had the occasion to correspond with him a few years back and he was the same kind, wonderful person. I feel honored that I had the chance to meet him and see him play. I extend my deepest sympathy to the family of this fine man.
