My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. Though I never met Howard in person, I had the opportunity to speak with him on the phone and to correspond by email shortly before he passed. My grandfather served in the 5th Engineer Battalion, 5th Marine Division with him at Iwo Jima. Howard was a true American Hero. I'll never forget you. May you rest in peace.
